Sambalpur (Odisha): Three persons were killed and five others seriously injured when the van carrying them collided head on with a truck in Dhanupali area in Sambalpur district today, police said.

The mishap took place on National Highway No 53 near here when the van was proceeding towards Hirakud from Padiabahal, said Inspector In-Charge of Dhaupali Police Station, Tofan Bag.
The injured persons were first taken to the district headquarters hospital here and later shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla for treatment, police said. PTI
