Kendrapara (Odisha): A 22-year-old man, who is already facing trial in a case of rape, was arrested today for allegedly sexually assaulting a three-year-old in Kothapada village in Odisha's Kendrapara district. 

Accused Rajesh Mallick confessed to the crime by stating that he committed the offence under the influence of alcohol, said Sandhyarani Beura, inspector of Rajkanika police station. Mallick is facing trial in a rape case that dates back to February 17, 2016, Beura said, adding, his victim was a six-year-old girl at that time. 

Recently he was out on bail, she said. The accused was produced before the court and sent to jail as his bail application was rejected, she said. The accused, who lived near victim s house, lured her with sweets, took the girl to a deserted paddy field and allegedly raped her there on November 13, she added. 

The victim's parents suspected that their child was physically abused when the victim developed abdominal pain, a police officer said. The accused, who was absconding, was caught today, the officer said.
