New Delhi: Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) MP Dushyant Chautala, the country's youngest parliamentarian, today attracted eyeballs when he reached Parliament to attend the Winter Session riding a tractor. The 29-year-old MP from Hisar's Haryana told PTI that he rode a green-coloured tractor to Parliament in protest against tweaking of certain rules relating to the Motor Vehicles Act which, he claimed, would add to farmers' woes.

"I rode the vehicle to protest tweaking of rules under the Act declaring tractor as mere vehicles and not the agricultural vehicle. The change in rules will mean the selling price of the vehicle will go up, farmers will have to pay a toll for using it to transport goods," he said. The amendment also intends to put a limit on loading farm produce in a tractor which will further increase the farmers' woes, he added.

Chautala said he had flagged the issue at an all-party meeting held ahead of the session yesterday and brought the concern to the notice of Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. "I had demanded permission from the Lok Sabha Speaker to reach Parliament on the tractor," he said. PTI
