Jammu: An alleged drug peddler was arrested and heroin was seized from him during vehicle checking in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, the police said today.

Rajeev Sambyal, a resident of Vijaypur, was arrested after a brief chase at Barian village last evening, a police spokesman said.

He said the police had laid a trap on the highway and a car, coming from the Samba side, was signalled to stop.

However, the driver tried to sped away but was chased and arrested, the spokesman said, adding that 1.4 grams of heroin was seized from his possession.

He said Sambyal was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
