Cop, discom officials beaten during checking of power theft

A police officer and some officials of a discom were allegedly beaten by residents of Shivpuri locality here when they reached there to check power theft, the police said today. Discom sub-divisional officer (SDO) Vikas Sharma lodged a complaint with police that yesterday an assistant sub inspector (ASI) of police and officials of power utility were beaten when they went to check power theft

Ambala: A police officer and some officials of a discom were allegedly beaten by residents of Shivpuri locality here when they reached there to check power theft, the police said today.     Discom sub-divisional officer (SDO) Vikas Sharma lodged a complaint with police that yesterday an assistant sub inspector (ASI) of police and officials of power utility were beaten when they went to check power theft.     Some residents of the Shivpuri locality started beating cops and officials of discom after they found power theft in a few houses, a police official said.     In the melee, the uniform of the ASI was torn off after which the policemen and officials of power utility left the spot, he said.     Mahesh Nagar Station House Officer (SHO) Subash said a case had been registered against some residents of the locality.     The power utility staff has sought immediate action and arrest of culprits within 24 hours.
