Cache of arms seized from vehicle near Nashik; 3 held

Nashik: Police today seized 25 rifles, 19 revolvers and over 4,000 live cartridges from a vehicle on the Mumbai-Agra National Highway and arrested three persons in this connection.  

Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted the car in the early hours today at the Chandwad toll-booth, about 70 kms from here, Nashik Rural Superintendent of Police Sanjay Darade told PTI. "25 rifles, 19 revolvers and 4,140 live cartridges were seized from the vehicle," Darade said.

Those arrested have been identified as Salman Khan and Badari Juman Badshah, both residents of Shivadi in Mumbai and Nagesh Bansode, resident of Nashik, another police official said.  

According to Darade, the three accused, who were coming from Malegoan in the district, visited a petrol pump on the way and got petrol filled at gun-point, following which the pump's owner alerted the police.

"It is a sensitive case and we are probing from where the fire arms were brought," the SP said. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered, police said. PTI
