
New Delhi: A total of 850 cases of
corruption are under the CBI investigation, 14 of which are
gathering dust for over five years, the Central Vigilance
Commission (CVC) said today.
Of the total cases, 500 are pending investigation for
less than a year, 245 between one and two years, 61 for two
to three years and 31 for three to five years, official data
said.
The data was released at a press conference here by the
CVC which exercises superintendence over the Central Bureau of
Investigation (CBI) in corruption cases.
There are 6,358 corruption cases pending trial in various
courts, 178 of them for over 20 years, it said.
As many as 1,883 cases are pending trial for less than
three years, 957 for more than three and upto five years,
1,915 for over five years and upto ten years, and 1,425 for
more than ten years and up to twenty years, the data said.
A total of 148 requests in 88 cases are pending
prosecution sanction against the corrupt government officials,
the CVC said.
Of these, 72 requests in 41 cases are pending prosecution
sanction for more than three months, it said.
As many as 40 requests in 25 cases are pending beyond the
four month time limit prescribed by the Supreme Court to
decide on sanction for prosecution, the CVC added.
