We currently want 'Punjab Bachau Front': SAD Leader Balwinder Singh Bhundar

MUMBAI: The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (India), a coalition of opposition parties, is set to convene its third meeting in Mumbai, Maharashtra, with the anticipation of welcoming new members into its fold. Notably, news has surfaced that the alliance has extended an invitation to the Shiromani Akali Dal to join its ranks, a development confirmed by Shiromani Akali Dal leader Balwinder Singh Bhundar. While discussions continue, the Akali Dal has expressed its primary focus on the 'Punjab Bachau Front', as indicated by Bhundar.

Sources suggest that Nitish Kumar of Bihar has been engaging with the Akali Dal in the context of this alliance. However, Akali leader Prem Singh Chandumajra offered a different perspective, asserting that the alliance appears unprincipled and inconsistent. Chandumajra emphasized that the Akali Dal would not align with an alliance that seemingly serves to protect a particular family and party. He further stressed that the Akali Dal is known for advocating the federal structure, contrasting with Congress' perceived disregard for it.

Notably, Chandumajra made it clear that, at present, there is no likelihood of the Akali Dal aligning with the proposed alliance. The complexity of alliance dynamics is further evident in the stance of Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Waring. He categorically rejected the idea of an alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal, describing it as an attempt by the latter to enhance its standing within the BJP's orbit. Raja Waring, in a tweet, expressed that the Akali Dal, having lost political ground, is now seeking relevance through the mantle of the I.N.D.I.A alliance.

It is worth noting that the 'India' Alliance, established with the aim of challenging the ruling BJP in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, has previously convened meetings in Patna, Bihar, and Bangalore, Karnataka. The third gathering, scheduled for August 31 and September 1 in Mumbai, is anticipated to witness the participation of several other political parties seeking to contribute to the coalition's mission.
