Bhawanipatna (Odisha): Three persons were arrested today in connection with raping a teenage girl in Kalahandi district and uploading the video clip on social media, a senior police officer said.

The arrests were made on the basis of an FIR lodged by the girl with the police at Junagarh regarding the incident that had taken place on March 17, said Superintendent of Police, Madkar Sandeep Sampat.

As per the FIR, the 17-year-old girl was returning home from a temple on March 17 evening when the accused Chitaranjan Guru (24) along with Makund Guru (20) and Susanta Pradhani (19) gagged her and took her in a bike to a secluded place near Junagarh.

While Chitaranjan Guru raped her, the other two accused persons had shot the video, the FIR said.

The three persons had threatened her that she would be killed and the video would be made viral if she disclosed the matter to anyone. Out of fear and social stigma the victim had remained silent.

But after coming to know that the video had been circulated on social media, the girl informed her family members and a complaint was lodged at Junagarh police station on April 6.

The accused were nabbed after police registered a case and launched a manhunt, the SP said.  PTI
