Andhra Pradesh Amateur Wrestling Association was asked to approach the High Court with their Grievances

NEW-DELHI: In a recent development, the Supreme Court of India has declined to intervene in the decision taken by the Punjab and Haryana High Court to suspend the elections of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). The decision came in response to a petition filed by the Andhra Pradesh Amateur Wrestling Association, which had sought the Supreme Court's intervention against the High Court's ruling.

A distinguished bench comprising Justice Abhay S Oka and Justice Pankaj Mittal emphasized that the petitioner should direct their concerns to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which had issued the stay order on the WFI elections. The bench asserted that the appropriate course of action for the petitioner was to address their grievances at the High Court level rather than filing a special leave petition at the Supreme Court.

"Why should we hear it? You go to the High Court... Instead of filing an application to vacate the interim stay, the petitioner decided to approach the Supreme Court. We, therefore, decline to entertain this special leave petition," the bench articulated during the hearing.

Notably, The wrestling community had been awaiting a decision on the matter following the Andhra Pradesh Amateur Wrestling Association's appeal against the High Court's August 11 order to halt the elections. The apex court's ruling to defer to the High Court's jurisdiction reaffirms the established legal principle of allowing lower courts to address matters within their purview.
