Odisha Weather Updates, Cyclone Montha Update Latest News: The Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, has warned of gusty winds upto 80km per hour, across Odisha, especially southern Odisha, for today and tomorrow, along with heavy rainfall, as the severe cyclonic storm Cyclone Montha intensifies over the west-central Bay of Bengal, about 550 km south-southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha).
According to the state meteorological department, heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by extremely heavy rain, is expected today and tomorrow, along with thunderstorms and lightning.
Five southeastern districts have been placed under a red alert for October 28, warning of scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall. The districts under red alert are Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.

Meanwhile, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khordha, and Puri have been placed under an orange alert, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall. The remaining districts are under a yellow alert with warnings of heavy rainfall.
Five southern districts of the state and four other districts will continue to remain under orange alert for tomorrow as well, with similar warnings.
Authorities in Ganjam, one of the southeastern districts of the state, have urged residents to leave their homes, move to relief shelters, and avoid visiting sea beaches in view of the approaching cyclone.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclonic Storm Montha [Pronunciation: Mon-Tha] has been moving north-northwestwards at a speed of 15 kmph over the past six hours. The IMD added that the cyclone has now intensified into a severe cyclonic storm. As of 5:30 a.m. (IST) on October 28, 2025, it was located over the west-central Bay of Bengal, near latitude 14.7°N and longitude 83.1°E, about 550 km south-southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha).

Chief Fire Officer Ramesh Chandra Majhi told ANI yesterday that rescue teams have been deployed in all red alert districts.
Majhi said, “The Odisha CM has directed everyone to ensure that no life is harmed. There are eight red alert districts, and 123 of our teams have been deployed in all these areas; all the equipment they need is available to them.”
“Dewatering will take place in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Brahmapur. A total of 144 teams will remain here to address urban flooding and other regular incidents,” he added.
JCBs have been stationed in hilly areas to ensure the prompt removal of debris, the officer said.
