Odisha Cyclone Montha Latest News: In view of Cyclone Montha, the Ganjam District Administration in Odisha has urged residents to avoid visiting sea beaches, vacate their houses, and move to relief shelters for safety.
Announcements are being made across the district, advising people to shift to safer locations. Preparations have been made at relief shelters to accommodate evacuees, ANI reported.

Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi chaired a high-level meeting at Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar to review the state’s preparedness for the impending cyclone. The meeting was attended by Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) D. K. Singh, DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, Fire Services DG Sudhanshu Sarangi, IMD Director Manorama Mohanty, and senior officials from various departments. District Collectors from cyclone-vulnerable areas also joined the meeting virtually, according to ANI.

Severe Cyclonic Storm “Montha” [Pronunciation: Mon-Tha] over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclonic Storm “Montha” [Pronunciation: Mon-Tha] moved north-northwestwards at a speed of 15 kmph over the past six hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Cyclone Montha has now intensified into a severe cyclonic storm. As of 5:30 a.m. (IST) on October 28, 2025, it was located over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal, near latitude 14.7°N and longitude 83.1°E — about 190 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 270 km south-southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), 340 km south-southwest of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), and 550 km south-southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha).
The cyclone, it said, is likely to continue moving north-northwestwards and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, around Kakinada, during the evening or night of 28th October, as a severe cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90–100 kmph, gusting up to 110 kmph, the IMD stated.

Depression over the East Central Arabian Sea
A depression over the eastcentral Arabian Sea has moved northeastwards at a speed of 12 kmph during the past six hours and lay centered at 0530 hrs IST on 28th October 2025, near latitude 17.0°N and longitude 67.8°E — about 510 km south-southwest of Veraval (Gujarat), 580 km west-southwest of Mumbai (Maharashtra), 660 km west-northwest of Panjim (Goa), 840 km northwest of Amini Divi (Lakshadweep), and 890 km west-northwest of Mangalore (Karnataka).
It is likely to move nearly north-northeastwards across the east-central Arabian Sea over the next 36 hours, the IMD added.
Preparations are underway in Bhubaneswar
Yesterday, Chief Fire Officer Ramesh Chandra Majhi told ANI that as eight districts were placed under a red alert due to Cyclone Montha, rescue teams had been deployed in all these districts.
Majhi said, “The Odisha CM has directed everyone to ensure that no life is harmed. There are eight red alert districts, and 123 of our teams have been deployed in all these areas; all the equipment they need is available to them.
“Dewatering will take place in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Brahmapur. A total of 144 teams will remain here to address urban flooding and other regular incidents.”
