Mpox Case in India's Kerala Latest News: Kerala has reported its second case of Mpox (monkeypox) after a man who recently returned from the UAE tested positive for the virus in Ernakulam on Friday. The patient, who is currently in stable condition, has been admitted to a private hospital in Kochi.
State Health Minister Veena George confirmed that a contact list of the patient has been prepared, and preventive measures have been implemented. The minister also stated that isolation facilities have been arranged in all districts, and people exhibiting symptoms are urged to seek immediate medical treatment.
This marks the second Mpox case in Kerala, following the detection of the first case of the Clade 1b strain in India on September 23. That case involved a 38-year-old man from Malappuram who had also returned from the UAE. Since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Mpox a Public Health Emergency of International Concern in 2022, 30 cases have been reported in India.
In response to the growing concerns, the Union Health Ministry issued an advisory on September 26, instructing states and union territories to assess public health preparedness. Senior officials at state and district levels have been tasked with reviewing health facility readiness to manage potential cases.
