Rapid commerce domain is projected to reach $5.5 billion by 2025- Redseer

NEW-DELHI: Swiggy and Apna, a leading professional networking platform for gig workers, on Thursday announced a partnership with online food delivery platform fast-commerce grocery service Instamart to create 10,000 jobs this year.

According to market research firm Redseer, the rapid commerce domain is projected to reach $5.5 billion by 2025, up from $0.3 billion in 2021. This will increase the demand to appoint more distribution partners.

The Vice President, Operations, Swiggy said, "With Swiggy's presence in over 500 cities for food delivery and over 25 cities for Instamart, we continue to focus on onboarding partners in Tier 2 and 3 cities.  The partnership with Apna has helped us expand our delivery fleet to meet the growing demand for Instamart in smaller cities."

With the advent of fast-paced commerce in India, consumers are now experiencing an enhanced shopping convenience. Due to this growth in the e-commerce industry, the demand for delivery workers across the country has increased. Industry reports estimate that the delivery workforce will grow to around 23.5 million by 2029-30.

In 2022, more than 1.5 million users from Tier 2, Tier 3 cities and beyond are expected to apply for 3 million delivery roles on Apna, contributing nearly 70 percent of the new user growth in the delivery segment. Nirmit Parikh, founder and CEO of Apna said, "With emerging opportunities for delivery partners in large parts of the country, we aim for Swiggy to bridge the demand-supply gap and create more job opportunities in the coming months."
