Farmers to Hold Tractor March on Republic Day, Plan Protests Ahead of Formal Talks

On January 29, farmers will gather at Beas with their tractors.

Farmers Tractor March on Republic Day 2025 Latest News Today: Farmers are set to intensify their protests with a tractor march on Republic Day, followed by a series of rallies aimed at pressing the government to address their demands. The key issues include a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and a comprehensive farm debt waiver.

According to farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher, the tractor march will take place from 12 PM to 1:30 PM, with participants parking their tractors outside shopping malls, silos, and BJP leaders’ offices. Pandher clarified that roads will not be blocked during the demonstration, emphasizing the peaceful nature of the protest.

Upcoming Protests and Rallies:

  • On January 29, farmers will gather at Beas with their tractors.
  • On January 30, they will march towards the Shambhu border, marking the first anniversary of their ongoing protest at this location.

The protest agenda also includes a demand for the establishment of a National Policy Framework on Agriculture Marketing (NPFAM), legal MSP guarantees, and relief from farm debts.

Pandher condemned the inclusion of Section 307 in cases filed against farmers after the January 5 incident in Ferozepur, calling for the withdrawal of these charges. He also criticized government actions targeting farmers for stubble burning, urging authorities to adopt a more supportive stance.

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has announced additional sit-ins outside Members of Parliament's homes on February 8 and 9, followed by a unit meeting on February 12 to further strategize their movement.

Dallewal’s Hunger Strike
Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike since November 26, 2024, continues his fast despite health concerns. Having consumed only water for 54 days, Dallewal recently began accepting medical aid, and his condition is reportedly improving.

These actions culminated in a display of strength ahead of formal talks with the government, scheduled for February 14, where farmers will present their 12-point charter of demands.
