Congress Leader Ashok Gehlot: Being Accused Is Different from Being Convicted; Responds to BJP Allegations Against Lalu and Tejashwi Yadav News: Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot, refuting statements made by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, emphasized that being accused and being convicted are two entirely different matters, questioning how consequences could be predicted in advance.
Speaking to ANI, Gehlot said, “Being accused is one thing. Being convicted is another. When no one has been convicted, how can you predict the consequences in advance? No one willingly accepts themselves as accused… During elections, some try to win by spreading lies. Rajasthan is a prime example of this.”
Earlier, following the announcement of Tejashwi Yadav as the Mahagathbandhan’s Chief Ministerial candidate in Bihar, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad alleged that both Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav are tainted by corruption.
Prasad claimed, “Lalu Prasad Yadav has been convicted in four fodder scam cases, with a total sentence of 32.5 years.”
Regarding Tejashwi Yadav, he added, “Two orders have been issued by the Delhi High Court in the IRCTC hotels corruption case. The court observed that this is a serious case of corruption and fraud under Section 420 of the IPC, which carries a punishment of seven years. Tejashwi Yadav is an accused under Section 420.”
Prasad further cautioned voters in Bihar, saying, “Their background is filled with corruption. None of their work happens without it. I am providing proof of this. The people of Bihar should be careful — those who promise 2.6 crore permanent jobs may end up ruining lives instead.”
Meanwhile, the NDA is yet to announce its Chief Ministerial candidate, with the opposition questioning whether Nitish Kumar will be made the CM face.
On the electoral front, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) released its list of candidates for the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 on October 20, fielding candidates in 143 constituencies. Tejashwi Prasad Yadav will contest from the Raghopur Assembly seat in Vaishali district.
