As per the new clause 4.7.10, schools are now required to install CCTV cameras
CBSE CCTV New Rules Latest News Today: In a decisive step towards strengthening student safety, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has mandated all affiliated schools to install high-resolution CCTV cameras with audio-visual recording capabilities across their campuses. This new directive comes as an amendment under Chapter 4 of the CBSE Affiliation Bye-Laws, 2018.
According to the circular issued by CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta, this move is aimed at ensuring a secure, abuse-free environment for students. The Board stated that safety extends beyond physical protection and must also cover emotional and psychological well-being, aligning with the guidelines of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).
As per the new clause 4.7.10, schools are now required to install CCTV cameras in the following areas:
- All entry and exit points
- Corridors and staircases
- Classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and canteen areas
- Playgrounds, store rooms, and other common zones
Toilets and washrooms are excluded to maintain privacy. Importantly, the CCTV system must support real-time audio-visual recording, and the footage must be stored for at least 15 days. Schools are instructed to ensure footage is accessible to authorities when required.
CBSE highlighted that a two-pronged approach is necessary, ensuring physical infrastructure safety and promoting a positive school climate where students feel protected from bullying, violence, or emotional distress.
“Every child deserves a safe space to learn, grow, and thrive. This provision strengthens our ongoing efforts to build such an environment,” the notification read.
All CBSE-affiliated schools have been instructed to implement this clause immediately and ensure full compliance. The move is seen as part of a broader strategy to modernize school security measures and instill greater confidence among parents and guardians regarding their children's safety.
