This latest raid marks yet another chapter in Baghel's ongoing clashes with central investigative bodies.
Bhupesh Baghel ED Raid Latest News Today: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday morning conducted a raid at the Bhilai residence of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, intensifying an already politically charged atmosphere in the state. The Congress veteran and senior leader’s house was searched amid speculations surrounding his alleged involvement in financial irregularities, although the ED has yet to confirm the case linked to the action.
The timing of the raid has raised eyebrows, especially as it coincides with the final day of the monsoon session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, a day on which the Congress had planned to raise the issue of large-scale deforestation in Tamnar tehsil of Raigarh district, allegedly connected to industrial projects involving the Adani Group.
Baghel’s team posted a scathing message on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“Today is the last day of the assembly session. The issue of trees being cut for Adani in Tamnar was to be raised. Saheb has sent ED to Bhilai Niwas.”
Raid Targets Residence Shared with Son
The Bhilai house, also occupied by Baghel’s son Chaitanya Baghel, was previously raided in March 2025 as part of an ongoing probe into a multi-crore liquor scam. The ED then claimed that Chaitanya was a suspected recipient of proceeds from the alleged ₹2,100 crore scam involving a liquor syndicate that defrauded the state exchequer.
Not Baghel’s First Run-in with Central Agencies
This latest raid marks yet another chapter in Baghel’s ongoing clashes with central investigative bodies. In March, the CBI raided his premises in connection with the Mahadev betting app case, which had also drawn allegations of political motivation from the Congress.
Baghel has consistently alleged that such enforcement actions are designed to discredit opposition leaders and serve as talking points for the BJP ahead of important political events.
ED Maintains Silence
So far, the ED has not issued a formal statement outlining the reasons for today’s raid or the specific case under which it was conducted. Legal experts believe the operation could be linked to ongoing probes involving suspected financial misconduct during Baghel’s tenure as CM.
Congress Slams "Misuse of Power"
The Congress has strongly condemned the move, calling it a “blatant misuse of central agencies to suppress dissent”. Senior leaders argue that the Centre is selectively targeting opposition leaders ahead of upcoming elections and sensitive policy debates.
“When a party raises legitimate concerns about environmental destruction or corruption, ED raids become the government’s reply. This is not law enforcement — it’s intimidation,” said a Congress spokesperson.
Legal Front Also Heats Up
With no official charges yet filed, the political and legal implications of the raid remain uncertain. However, today’s developments further underscore the increasingly tense relationship between state-level Congress leaders and the BJP-led Union government, particularly over issues involving big business, environment, and governance.
As the opposition prepares to rally around Baghel, all eyes are now on the ED for clarity on the case — and on Bhupesh Baghel, who has vowed to "fight back with facts and the Constitution."
