DGCA Directs Airlines to Inspect Boeing Aircraft Fuel Switch Mechanism by July 21
New Delhi, July 14 – The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India's aviation watchdog, has directed all domestic airlines operating Boeing aircraft to complete inspections of a key fuel control switch mechanism by July 21, 2025, Business Today reported.
The directive comes in light of a 2018 U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) airworthiness bulletin that warned of the potential disengagement of the fuel control switch locking feature on certain Boeing models.
According to the report, some domestic and international airline operators have already initiated the inspections.
In an official notification, the DGCA stated, "The Federal Aviation Administration has issued Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB) Number: NM-18-33 dated December 17, 2018, regarding the potential for disengagement of the fuel control switch locking feature on Boeing aircraft."
The aviation authority has also mandated modifications in aircraft, engines, and components based on airworthiness directives issued by the state of design or manufacture.
"All airline operators of the affected aircraft are hereby advised to complete the inspection required under SAIB Number: NM-18-33, dated December 17, 2018, no later than July 21, 2025. The inspection plan and report, after completion of the inspection, shall be submitted to this office under intimation to the concerned Regional Office," the DGCA said.
On Friday, July 11, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) released its preliminary findings into the Air India Boeing 787 flight AI 171 crash incident.
