Baba Siddique Death News: Lawrence Bishnoi Gang Claims Responsibility for Siddique’s Murder

Siddique's murder has sparked outrage across Maharashtra's political circles.

Baba Siddique Death Murder News, Lawrence Bishnoi Gang Claims Responsibility Latest Update: The notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for the shocking murder of former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique. The 66-year-old politician was shot dead last night outside his son Zeeshan Siddique's office in Mumbai’s Bandra East. The incident occurred around 9:30 pm, as Siddique and an associate were ambushed by gunmen who fired multiple rounds, fatally striking the former minister in the chest. (Who was Baba Siddique?)

According to Mumbai Police, three shooters were involved in the assassination. Two suspects, identified as Gurmail Baljit Singh, 23, from Haryana, and Dharamraj Kashyap, 19, from Uttar Pradesh, have been arrested. The third shooter, Shiv Kumar Gautam, also from Uttar Pradesh, remains at large. Authorities are also searching for a fourth individual believed to be the handler of the operation. In the aftermath of the attack, the Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility via a social media post, sparking an investigation by central agencies. The post is suspected to be linked to Shubham Rameshwar Lonkar, also known as Shibu Lonkar, an associate of the Bishnoi gang. Shubham was arrested earlier this year in Maharashtra’s Akola district for illegal weapons possession and is believed to have maintained communication with Anmol Bishnoi, Lawrence Bishnoi’s close brother, through video calls, further linking him to the gang.

Investigators have also revealed that the arrested shooters, Dharamraj and Shiv Kumar, were neighbours from Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district. Both worked as laborers in Pune before being lured into the criminal network. The two had no prior criminal records in their hometown, but sources suggest they were motivated by the opportunity to gain notoriety through their association with the Bishnoi gang. It is believed their connection to the gang was formed during a stint in a Punjab jail.

The shooters had been monitoring Baba Siddique’s movements for months, conducting surveillance on his residence and office. Police reported that the assailants were paid ₹50,000 each for the hit, and their weapons were delivered only days before the assassination. As the investigation unfolds, Mumbai Police have increased security around the residence of actor Salman Khan, who has been previously targeted by the Bishnoi gang. In April 2024, the gang attempted a shooting outside Khan's Bandra home, and a ₹25 lakh contract had been issued for his assassination. The gang’s plan against Khan was foiled, but the escalation of gang-related violence continues to be a cause of concern.

Siddique's murder has sparked outrage across Maharashtra's political circles. The former minister, known for his bipartisan friendships and popularity, has received condolences from leaders across party lines. The incident has raised alarms about rising violence in the state, prompting calls for stronger measures against organized crime.

Who Was Baba Siddique?

Baba Siddique was a well-known figure in Maharashtra politics, having served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) and a former minister. His assassination has left a deep void in the political landscape, and his murder has sent shockwaves through the state.
