
Manipur has been facing violence for a long time now.
Manipur President Rule Latest News Today: In a major development, the President's Rule has been imposed in Manipur on Thursday following the recent resignation by Chief Minister Biren Singh.
While there has been no agreement on the successor for the then CM Biren Singh after a few days of his resignation, the President's rule has been imposed in the state.
As per Article 174(1) of the Indian constitution, the state Assemblies must be called upon within six months of their last sitting. To note, the late Assembly session in Manipur was held on August 12, 2024. Likewise, the deadline for its next session was supposed to be Wednesday i.e. February 12, 2025.
In the meanwhile, the Governer Ajay Bhalla had convened the Budget session for Monday following the resignation of Chief Minister Biren Singh on Sunday.
It is pertinent to mention that N Biren Singh's resignation came just a day before the government led by him was set to face a no-confidence motion and a key floor test. His resignation came at a time when Manipur had been facing violence since May 2023. Similarly, there had been a plethora of pressure from the opposition as well.
