Singh's plea being heard for allowing him to attend Lok Sabha proceedings
No Relief For MP Amritpal Singh, lok Sabha Grants leave for 54 days latest news: The Punjab and Haryana High Court was told on Wednesday that the Lok Sabha has been given 54 days of leave of absence by Member of Parliament (MP) Amritpal Singh, who is currently incarcerated in jail under the National Security Act (NSA) in Assam.
This submission was on the occasion of Singh's plea being heard for allowing him to attend Lok Sabha proceedings, as he was concerned that his parliamentary constituency would be deemed vacant upon a persistent absence of 60 days.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sumeet Goel observed that the fear of the petitioner being separated from Parliament as a result of his absence has been alleviated by the March 11, 2025, letter sent by the Lok Sabha Secretariat granting the leave of absence. Therefore, Singh's relief stands met.
