Jammu and Kashmir Anantnag Encounter latest news: The bullet-riddled body of a Territorial Army (TA) soldier, who had been abducted by terrorists in South Kashmir's Anantnag district, was found by security forces on Wednesday.
The soldier, identified as Hilal Ahmad Bhat, went missing on Tuesday from the Shah area. His body was recovered from the Sanglan forest region in Utrasoo, Anantnag, following a large-scale search operation launched by security forces.
The police confirmed that once Bhat's body was found, it was taken to a hospital for necessary medical formalities. The Army’s Chinar Corps, based in Srinagar, also released a statement, saying, “Based on intelligence inputs, a joint counter-terrorist operation was launched by the Indian Army, along with Jammu and Kashmir Police and other agencies, in the Kazwan Forest area of Kokernag on 8th October 2024. The operation continued overnight as one Territorial Army soldier was reported missing.”
This incident follows a pattern of increasing abductions of soldiers in the region. In August 2023, an army soldier from Kulgam went missing while on leave. He was eventually found by police. The soldier, Wani, disappeared from his home in Kulgam district under suspicious circumstances after leaving for the market to buy food, with his abandoned car later found near his home, bloodstains present inside.
In a similar case from 2019, a soldier named Yasin Bhat narrowly escaped an abduction attempt at his home in Budgam after a scuffle with terrorists who had broken into his house. He managed to flee, but such incidents highlight the increasing risk to soldiers and security personnel in the region.
The abduction and killing of Hilal Ahmad Bhat mark yet another grim reminder of the continuing unrest in South Kashmir.
