Jammu and Kashmir Election Results 2024 LIVE UPDATES: The counting of votes for Jammu and Kashmir's 90 assembly constituencies began at 8 AM, marking a crucial phase in restoring an elected government in the region after six years. The previous administration, a PDP-BJP coalition, collapsed on June 20, 2018, leading to a period of direct rule, followed by the historic abrogation of Article 370. The majority required to form a government was set at 46 seats.
This election, the first in Jammu and Kashmir since 2014, was conducted in three phases. The first phase, held on September 18, involved voting for 24 seats, followed by the second phase on September 25 with 26 seats. The final phase, for the remaining 40 constituencies, took place on October 1.
The main political contenders include the Congress-National Conference alliance, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This election also comes five years after Jammu and Kashmir was reorganized into two union territories—Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh—following the revocation of its special status.
