We are taking this issue very sensitively: Anurag Thakur

NEW-DELHI: After Union Home Minister Amit Shah's meeting with the wrestlers protesting against the former President of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has now said that the government is ready to hold talks with the wrestlers. Anurag Thakur has informed about this by tweeting late night. He said, "The government is willing to have a discussion with the wrestlers on their issues. I have once again invited the wrestlers for the same."

Earlier, Anurag Thakur in Maharashtra had said, "We are taking this issue very sensitively. The demand of the players was to form a committee, we have formed the committee. They wanted an investigation, we got an investigation. Delhi Police also registered an FIR in the matter."

He said, "They went to the Supreme Court, there also the SC asked them to approach the Magistrate's Court. They did not want to allow the officials of the Indian Wrestling Federation to work, we did that too. The trial committee is also doing it". Anurag Thakur said that the Delhi Police is conducting its own investigation and action will be taken based on whatever charges are laid against Brij Bhushan.

He said, "Delhi Police is also investigating. What the players have said has happened. The police is investigating in this matter. The police have also taken the statements of many people. The police will give their report and file a charge sheet. Appropriate action will also be taken when the charge sheet is filed. They should wait till the police investigation is completed."

Anurag Thakur added that there should be no politics on this issue. He said, "We want to tell the leaders who are doing politics on this that the law of the country is equal for all Indians. Both the game and the players are important to us. The respect given by the Prime Minister to the sportsmen is not hidden from anyone. But as far as the police investigation is concerned, the police is doing its job and will file a charge sheet in this case as well."
