New Delhi: The issue of migrant workers was heard in the Supreme Court today. "We will tell you what we want to do," the apex court said. All migrants will be given 15 days to reach home. All states will have to bring a record of how they will provide employment and other relief.
SCHe said that registration of migrants was mandatory. During the hearing on the petition, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that about 10 million workers have been repatriated so far. 41 lakh migrants have been repatriated by road and 57 lakh by rail.
Presenting the figures before the bench, Tushar Mehta said that most of the trains were run for UP or Bihar. He also said that so far 4,270 labour trains have been run. We are in touch with the state governments.
PhotoHe said that only the state governments could tell the court how many migrants were yet to be repatriated and how many trains would be required. The states have prepared a chart because they were in the best position to do so.
After looking at the chart, the apex court said that as per the chart, only one train was requested for Maharashtra. On this, Tushar Mehta said that 802 trains have already been run from Maharashtra.
