Ladakh Administration Orders Magisterial Inquiry into September 24 Leh Violence Latest News: The administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh on Thursday announced a magisterial inquiry into the September 24 violence in Leh, which left four people dead and dozens of civilians as well as security personnel injured.

The administration stated that it has designated Mukul Beniwal, IAS, Sub Divisional Magistrate Nubra, as the Inquiry Officer for the magisterial inquiry.

The inquiry will investigate and ascertain the detailed facts and circumstances leading to the serious law and order situation, police action, and resultant death of four individuals, namely:

(i) Jigmet Dorjey, S/o Yountan Chospel, resident of Kharnak
(ii) Rinchen Dadul, S/o Tsering Morup, resident of Hanu
(iii) Stanzin Namgail, S/o Nawang Zotpa, resident of Igoo
(iv) Tsewang Tharchin, S/o Stanzin Namgyal, resident of Skurbuchan (Veteran Kargil War Hero)

As per the order, the investigation team will submit a detailed inquiry report within a period of four weeks.

Anyone with information about the incident and willing to provide evidence can appear before the inquiry officer from October 4 to October 18, 2025, at the DC Office Conference Hall, Leh, Office of the Inquiry Officer, the order said.

Ladakh is known for its peace, and this was the first time in history that violence of such gravity was witnessed in Leh. On September 24, years of peaceful protest turned violent, leading to the deaths of four civilians.

According to reports, security personnel fired live rounds—shooting one person in the head and the other three in the chest and other upper body parts.

Ever since the violence broke out, the people of Ladakh, headed by the Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance, have been demanding an impartial judicial inquiry into the deaths.

Apex Member Tsering Dorjey Lakruk claimed that he is certain no order was issued for shooting with live rounds that day.

The LAB and KDA have also demanded the release of Sonam Wangchuk, who was detained on September 26 under the National Security Act, 1980, and is currently held in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

His wife, Gitanjali Angmo, on Thursday wrote to President Droupadi Murmu requesting the release of the internationally renowned climate activist, condemning his unlawful arrest.
