Tamil Nadu: Five people were killed, a number of workers feared trapped and 17 others injured here on Wednesday, when a boiler exploded at the Neyveli lignite corporation (NLC) India's thermal plant, an official said.

The 17 injured persons have been admitted to the NLC Lignite Hospital with burn injuries.

PhotoPhoto The incident took place at the fifth unit of the thermal power station-II (210 MW x 7). The explosion happened as workers were resuming operations this morning.

This is the second such incident at the Neyveli plant at Cuddalore. On May 7 also, a boiler had exploded at the same plant and 8 workers were injured in the incident.
