Southwest Monsoon Arrives in Himachal Pradesh, IMD Issues Orange Alerts for Heavy Rainfall till June 25
Shimla, June 20, 2025 – The India Meteorological Department (IMD), has officially announced the onset of the Southwest Monsoon over Himachal Pradesh, covering parts of the state including Shimla, on June 20. The IMD has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts between June 20 and June 25, issuing an Orange Alert for multiple days.
According to the IMD, the northern limit of the monsoon now passes through Jaipur, Agra, Dehradun, Shimla, Mandi and extends to 33.5°N/79.0°E. In the last 24 hours, isolated areas in the state experienced heavy rainfall along with thunder and lightning, while several other places saw moderate rain.

Weather Forecast and Warnings:
The IMD has warned of widespread rainfall across plains, low hills, mid hills and adjoining high hill regions of Himachal Pradesh in the coming days, with peak rainfall intensity expected on June 22 and June 25.
Orange Alert – Day-wise Rainfall Warning:
June 20: Heavy rainfall likely at isolated places in Kangra, Sirmaur, Hamirpur, and Mandi.
June 21: Heavy rain expected at isolated locations in Una, Hamirpur, Kangra, Sirmaur, Solan, and Shimla.
June 22: Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Solan, and Sirmaur; heavy rain also expected in Mandi, Chamba, and Shimla.
June 23: Heavy to very heavy rain forecasted in Kangra and Sirmaur; heavy rain in Shimla, Solan, and Kullu.
June 24: Heavy rainfall likely at isolated locations in Chamba, Sirmaur, Mandi, and Solan.
