HP Power Board Refutes Kangana Ranaut’s Rs 1 Lakh Bill Claim, Cites High Usage and Pending Dues, Latest News: The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) has rebutted BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut’s recent claim about receiving an inflated electricity bill of nearly rupees 1 lakh for her allegedly unoccupied house in Manali, according to a report in India TV.

In a public meeting in Mandi, a video of which went viral, Ranaut had criticised the Congress-led Himachal government, saying, “I received an electricity bill of Rs 1 lakh for one month for my house in Manali. I don't even live there. It is such a miserable condition.”
Responding to the statement, HPSEBL issued a clarification on Wednesday, terming her claim “completely wrong and misleading.” According to the board, the total bill of Rs 90,384 covered two billing cycles — January and February — and included previous unpaid dues of Rs 32,287.

The electricity connection, registered under Kangana Ranaut’s name in Simsa village, reportedly has a connected load of 94.82 KW, nearly 1,500% higher than a typical domestic connection. The board added that the house had consumed around 14,000 units in the two months in question, with average monthly usage ranging from 5,000 to 9,000 units — significantly above normal domestic levels.

HPSEBL also confirmed that Ranaut had not cleared her electricity dues from October to December 2024, which had accumulated to Rs 82,061. The latest payment made on March 28 accounted for both recent usage and the old dues.
Despite the high consumption, HPSEBL noted that the connection receives the applicable state subsidy like any other domestic consumer.

Ranaut, a first-time MP from Mandi, made the remark as part of a larger critique of the state’s public service delivery under the Congress government.
