Bilaspur Landslide Death Toll Stands at 16, Including a Seven-Year-Old, Latest News: A massive and deadly landslide hit a private bus near Balughat (Bhallu Bridge) in the Jhanduta Assembly constituency of Bilaspur district, Himachal Pradesh, on Tuesday, claiming sixteen lives, including a seven-year-old child, officials confirmed.
Relief and rescue operations continued late into the night, and by 2:30 am, 15 bodies had been recovered. The rescue operations resumed as soon as morning broke today.
Jhanduta SDM Arshiya Sharma told PTI, “The body of a seven-year-old child, who was the last missing person, has been recovered. Fifteen deaths were confirmed yesterday. Two injured persons have been discharged from the hospital. The total death toll now stands at 16, including 10 men, three women, and three children.”
Two injured individuals were admitted to AIIMS Bilaspur, said the Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh, Sanjay Gupta. He also expressed condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the tragic incident.
SDM Arshiya Sharma stated that the rescue operation will now be stopped, as all the bodies have been recovered. The debris from the site will be cleared to make the road functional again, keeping safety in view.
Meanwhile, 10 to 11 bodies have been handed over to the families after postmortem examinations, and postmortems of the remaining 3 to 4 bodies are currently underway. These will also be handed over once the examinations are complete.
PWD, NDRF, and the local administration have all been actively involved in the relief and rescue operations.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, in a post on X, wrote, “I am in contact with the local administration and am receiving minute-by-minute updates on the entire rescue operation. May God grant peace to the departed souls and provide strength to the grieving families. In this difficult time, I stand with all the affected families.”
