Himachal Pradesh Declares Entire State As Disaster Affected, No Special Help From Centre Latest News: The Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government has declared the entire state as “disaster affected” under Section 34 of the National Disaster Management Act. Details are awaited.
Himachal Pradesh is grappling with the most horrific disaster in history, the Chief Minister of the state, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said yesterday, while speaking during the monsoon session held in the Vidhan Sabha hall in Shimla.
He said the disaster shows no signs of stopping and called out that the BJP-led central government is not providing any special assistance.
He said rescue of devotees of the Shri Manimahesh Yatra is ongoing and the district administration has made arrangements for their accommodation and food.
So far, approximately ten thousand devotees have been safely transported to their back home through HRTC buses, he said, adding “the process of safely sending the remaining devotees to their destinations promptly is ongoing.”
He added devotees who are unable to walk will be brought to Chamba via free helicopter and will be sent to their destination from Chamba via HRTC buses.
Heavy damage has been caused to roads, water supply, electricity system, and other sectors, suffering economic losses amounting to thousands of crores of rupees.
Heavy rainfall and landslides have severely affected the state's transportation system. Vehicles carrying vegetables and other food supplies are being cleared. Power supply has been restored in most areas, and efforts are ongoing to quickly restore essential services in the remaining places.
Former Chief Minister Shanta Kumar has written to the Central Government for the relief, rescue, and rehabilitation of disaster-affected families in the state.
Yesterday, the CM told media that he is ready to work with the leaders of the opposition, under their leadership, to represent the state's case before the central government.
He added that the crisis the state has been going through in the past few weeks is not just a ‘geographical crisis, but also a matter of national concern. Because the impact of Global Warming falls most heavily on the mountains.”
