Chandigarh: The Punjab government has suspended Fazilka’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Varinder Singh Brar in connection with a corruption case, escalating its recent crackdown on misconduct within the police force.
The suspension comes a day after four personnel from Fazilka Police Station were caught red-handed by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh. Sources confirmed that all four officials are under investigation, and strict legal action is underway.
Punjab Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema issued a strong statement following the suspension: “Whether big or small, one’s own or an outsider, no one will be spared in corruption cases.” The minister reiterated the government's commitment to maintaining transparency and rooting out corruption at all levels.
