The patient, who tested positive for the virus on Tuesday, had been admitted to the hospital four days ago due to severe respiratory issues.
According to health officials, the man was referred to GMCH-32 from a medical facility in Ludhiana after exhibiting critical symptoms. He was immediately placed in the hospital’s COVID-19 isolation ward. Despite medical efforts, his condition deteriorated, leading to his death on Wednesday morning.
Health authorities have initiated contact tracing to identify and quarantine individuals who may have come into close contact with the deceased. The Punjab Health Department has urged residents to remain cautious, emphasizing the importance of early testing for symptoms, wearing masks in public spaces, and maintaining social distancing to curb the virus’s spread.
This tragic development follows the recent emergence of COVID-19 cases in other Punjab districts, including Mohali, Amritsar, and Firozpur.
