Prime Minister Narendra Modi boldly claimed that the banning of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 would bring positive results and it would boost up the Indian economy. However, the results of the last quarter released yesterday showed that the demonetisation proved a disaster.
RBI results of quarter showed that 99% of currency notes were returned. The demonetisation ruined the lives of so many people in the month of November 2016 due to the cash crunch.
Ravinder Singh, a farmer of Majupura village in Majitha area committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance as he failed to withdraw cash from a bank at a village near his house after several attempts. But the police denied it by saying that Ravinder Singh committed suicide as he was not having enough cash for his daughter's marriage.
The marriage of his daughter was scheduled for December 4, 2016. He had also booked a marriage palace and made advance payments to caterers and other service providers. One of his relatives also said that he was under stress as he did not get money from the bank and for that particular reason only he had committed suicide. Ravinder Singh owned three acres of land and was having two sons, two daughters and wife.
Sardool Singh, a 70-year-old ex-serviceman had gone to get his pension, but passed away while standing in a queue outside a bank at somewhere near Punjab. He was amongst the most elderly person who lost his life while standing in a queue. Most of his relatives have also shown their anger in front of the BJP office. His pension was a great help to their family who are now struggling for their day-to-day lives.
Similarly one more person Harpreet Singh who was former government official was standing in a queue at a bank near his house and after a long time when he was told that cash was not available he collapsed immediately at that time.
One of his relatives said if he was not amongst the one of the rich person of the society otherwise he would have taken the Modi government to the courts and would have taken some legal action against them.
There were many cases and according to the information around 11 people lost their lives in Punjab within 20 days after the demonetisation. Ten months later now when Demonetisation has become a great failure the people of Punjab are showing their anger by saying that the Modi government had deceived its own citizens which no government has done this before.
Apart from death, the newspapers also showed that elderly people were falling sick while standing in queues outside banks. Besides pensioners and elderly, Demonetisation was also a bad dream for those people who had family functions, especially weddings.
