"In the past twenty years, you have run it in a completely corrupt and filthy fashion,”
MCD Responsible for Dog Bites to Foreign Coaches, Says Animal Rights Activist Maneka Gandhi News: Animal rights activist and BJP leader Maneka Gandhi on Monday called out the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), terming it corrupt and blaming it for the failure of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) program for the management of stray dogs in the national capital.
She made the remarks while speaking to news agency ANI about the incident in which two foreign coaches were bitten by stray dogs at the warm-up track of the Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium on October 3.
She alleged that the MCD was responsible for the dog bite incidents involving the foreign coaches and further accused it of picking up dogs from affluent colonies and releasing them in areas where poor people reside.
"The problem in Delhi is that the MCD, for the last 25 years, has been mismanaging this program. Even now, they are in contempt of court because they have done nothing. They have been picking up dogs from rich colonies and releasing them in areas around JLN Stadium, parks, and places where the poor reside."
“MCD people should be jailed. MCD should be pulled up -they are the people responsible,” she further alleged.
She said the ABC program has failed because of the MCD’s negligence. According to her, there are twenty ABC centres in Delhi, of which sixteen are unlicensed. “How can you run a program like that?” she questioned.
“Start doing the program properly, and within three years, there will be no problem. In the past twenty years, you have run it in a completely corrupt and filthy fashion,” she added.
Many citizens have flagged stray dogs as a menace to public safety, and the dog bites involving foreign coaches have once again brought attention to this growing issue.
