Srinagar: After arresting his son-in-law, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has issued summons to elder son of hardline Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani in the terror funding case.
The agency today issued summons to Dr Syed Naeem Geelani and 29 others for questioning. “Yes, summons have been issued to probe the terror funding case,” an NIA officer said. However, Dr Naeem said he had only heard through the media that summons had been issued to him. “Nothing officially came to me,” he said. During the height of the unrest last year, the NIA had summoned Dr Naeem for questioning too.
Seven separatist leaders, including Geelani’s son-in-law Altaf Ahmad Shah, alias Fantoosh, were arrested and taken to Delhi where they were sent on remand for 10 days.
The NIA will also conduct a lie-detector test on the arrested separatists. The NIA, which also questioned a prominent businessman, Zahoor Watali, is also investigating the Dubai link of hawala transactions.
The agency had registered the case on May 30 against the separatist and secessionist leaders, including the members and cadres of the Hurriyat Conference, who have been acting in connivance with active militants raising, receiving and collecting funds through various illegal means, including hawala, for funding separatist and terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir and for causing disruption in the Kashmir valley by way throwing stones on the security forces, burning schools, damaging public property and waging war against the country.
