Murder accused shot dead in Rohtak

Rohtak: Ankit, a resident of Rithal village in the district, was shot dead by unidentified assailants on the Ladhot road on the outskirts of the town today. Ankit was an accused in the murder of a national-level kabaddi player. He along with a friend was going to court for hearing in the murder case when he was attacked.

The murder was captured on a CCTV camera, which shows that Ankit was riding pillion on a motorcycle with a friend when two youths fired shots at them. Once he fell down, one of the assailants shot him in the chest and the head from a close range and fled.

While Ankit died on the spot, his friend managed to escape. The police say the murder is the result of a gang war. Last year, a national-level kabaddi player from Rithal village was shot dead in a similar manner. Ankit and his friend were booked for the player’s murder and were out on bail.

Since they apprehended attack from the other side, the police had provided them a gunman. They were going to court for a hearing with their friends and the gunman on two motorcycles when the assailants targeted them.
