Highest rainfall in Karnal
Rain started early in the morning and lasted three to four hours. Chocked drains led to waterlogging in various areas. According to the MeT Department, the district received the highest rainfall of 140.4 mm in the state. The most affected areas were Char Chaman, Committee Chowk, Sectors 6, 7, 8, 13, Mughal Canal, Shiv Colony, Ram Nagar, Kunjpura road, Old city and others. Traffic was disrupted for hours on various roads that remained water-logged.
Mandeep Singh Brar, Deputy Commissioner, and Dr Aditya Dahiya, Municipal Commissioner, inspected various areas. Meanwhile, the rain has brought cheer to paddy farmers.
Flood-like situation in Kaithal
The rain exposed the ill-preparedness of the Municipal Council, Public Health Department and the administration. Water accumulated in areas, including the Ambala road, Pehowa chowk, Keorak gate, Mata gate, Amargarh colony, Ambkeshwar Basti Nanak Puri, Balrajnagar, and other residential areas.
The XEN, Public Health Department, said heavy rain within a few hours caused a flood-like situation in the town. The pumping sets installed in the town were functional, he added.
T0raffic, power supply hit in Yamunanagar
Heavy rain lashed several areas of Yamunanagar district on Wednesday, throwing life out of gear.
It adversely affected traffic movement, water and electricity supply in Yamunanagar and Jagadhri.
Several areas, including Professor Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Jammu Colony, Azad Nagar and Yamunanagar bus stand, remained water-logged. There were reports of long power cuts in many areas.
The district received 43 mm of rain up to 8 am. An increase in the water level of the Yamuna was also witnessed. Water discharge of 31221 cusecs was recorded at the Hathnikund Barrage.
