Shivraj Singh Chouhan News: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday said that the Central Government will buy the entire output of tur, urad, and masur dal produced by the farmers.
He added that the government will handle the procurement through the e-Samridhi platform, which requires farmers to register.
In response to a supplementary question in the Rajya Sabha, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the government will purchase all tur, urad, and masur dal produced by farmers.
The minister further noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the government has achieved the highest level of procurement from farmers under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme.
Chouhan referred to data from the previous UPA government, stating that between 2003-04 and 2013-14, only 45 crore metric tonnes were procured under the Minimum Support Price (MSP). In contrast, the current NDA government has purchased a total of 69.18 crore metric tonnes from 2014-15 to 2023-24, he said.
He accused the opposition of engaging in politics and noted that the Swaminathan Committee had recommended a 50 percent profit margin for farmers over their costs. However, he claimed that it was the UPA government that chose to ignore this recommendation.
Citing a cabinet note from the previous Manmohan Singh government, Chouhan highlighted that it rejected the Swaminathan Commission's suggestions, arguing that linking MSP directly to the cost of production would distort the market.
