Punjab Launches Wheat Procurement Drive from Rajpura; FCI to Procure 124 Lakh Metric Tonnes at 2,425 rupees MSP, Latest News: Punjab’s Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Minister Mr. Lal Chand Kataruchak officially flagged off the commencement of the season’s government wheat procurement on Thursday, starting from the grain market in Rajpura, Punjab. The government buys wheat directly from farmers at a fixed Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Mr. Lal Chand Kataruchak announced that Punjab has received a Cash Credit Limit of 28,894 crore rupees from the Reserve Bank of India, and the procurement of wheat is being carried out at an MSP of 2,425 rupees per quintal.
The Minister also oversaw the auction of wheat by a farmer named Harwinder Singh and welcomed the farmers on behalf of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann.
He added that, in addition to the existing 1,865 mandis across the state, 600 temporary procurement centers have been set up to handle any excess arrivals, if required. Additionally, 5 lakh (500,000) bundles of gunny (jute) sacks have been arranged to support the operations.
He further announced that the Food Corporation of India (FCI) aims to procure 124 lakh metric tonnes of wheat from Punjab farmers this season.
Mr. Kataruchak said that the Food and Civil Supplies Department, district administrations, and other concerned departments are working in complete coordination to ensure a smooth procurement drive, and assured both labourers and farmers of efficient and hassle-free operations.
On the occasion, Rajpura MLA Neena Mittal, Department Secretary Rahul Tiwari, Director Varinder Kumar Sharma, and Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav, among other officials, were also present with the Minister.
