Gallantry medals to 3 Haryana IPS officers for duty during farmers' Delhi march protest: In a shocking development, the Haryana government has recommended the “Police Medal for Gallantry” for three IPS officers and three HPS (Haryana Police Service) officers who stopped farmers marching from Punjab to the national capital as part of their “Dilli Chalo” agitation in February, earlier this year.
It may be recalled that the Haryana government, in February, had established barricades at Shambhu and Khanauri borders, in Ambala and Jind, respectively, following the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha's call for Delhi march in support of various demands, including a legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) for crops.
Since then, the farmers have been camping at the two border points on the Punjab side.
On July 10, the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the Haryana government to remove the barricades within a week at the Shambhu border. The Haryana government also challenged the order in the Supreme Court. The hearing in the matter is scheduled to held on July 22.
In the recommendations sent to Centre on July 2, the Haryana government pitched for the gallantry medal to IPS officers Sibash Kabiraj (IGP, Karnal), Jashandeep Singh Randhawa (SP, Kurukshetra) and Sumit Kumar (SP, Jind) and three HPS officers include Narender Singh, Ram Kumar and Amit Bhatia (all DSPs).
The government has forwarded the names following the recommendations from DGP Shatrujeet Kapur for “their exceptional bravery and leadership”.
