As per reports, Rachel was suffering from depression, allegedly due to insecurities related to her facial appearance. She is believed to have died after consuming an overdose of sleeping pills.
Who Was Sen Rachel?
Sen Rachel was a 25-year-old model who won the title of Miss Puducherry in 2021. She passed away on Sunday at JIPMER Hospital in Puducherry. Media reports claim that Rachel died by suicide.
She had previously won the title of Miss Dark Skin Tamil Nadu in 2019 and later went on to win Miss Puducherry in 2021. Her real name was Rachel Priya. According to reports, she faced significant discrimination in the fashion and entertainment industry due to her dark skin tone.
Rachel lost her mother at a young age and was raised by her father, who encouraged her to pursue modeling. She had participated in several international beauty contests in countries like the UK, Germany, and France.
She had recently gotten married and was reportedly dealing with depression.
Circumstances Leading to Her Death
On July 5, Rachel allegedly consumed an overdose of sleeping pills. As her condition deteriorated, her father first took her to a government hospital in Puducherry, and then to a private hospital. Eventually, she was admitted to JIPMER Hospital, where she passed away on Saturday.
Police sources confirmed that she was initially taken to the Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital, then shifted to a private hospital in Moolakulam, and later referred to JIPMER, where doctors declared her dead. Her post-mortem was scheduled to be conducted on Monday.
A suicide note was reportedly found at her father’s residence. In the note, Rachel stated that no one was responsible for her death. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation and ordered an inquiry at the tehsildar level.
