Kota Srinivasa Rao Dies at 83: Veteran actor and Padma Shri awardee Kota Srinivasa Rao passed away in Hyderabad on Sunday at the age of 83. His passing has sparked a wave of tributes from across the nation, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi among those expressing deep sorrow.
“Anguished by the passing of Shri Kota Srinivas Rao Garu. He will be remembered for his cinematic brilliance and versatility. He enthralled audiences across generations with his riveting performances. He was also at the forefront of social service and worked towards empowering the poor and downtrodden. Condolences to his family and countless admirers. Om Shanti,” PM Modi wrote in a post on X.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu also expressed his condolences. He tweeted, “The demise of the renowned actor Kota Srinivasa Rao, who won the affection of cinema audiences with his versatile roles, is deeply saddening. His artistic contributions to the fields of cinema and theatre over nearly four decades, and the roles he portrayed, will remain unforgettable. The numerous memorable roles he played as a villain and character artist will forever stay etched in the hearts of Telugu audiences. His passing is an irreparable loss to the Telugu film industry. In 1999, he was elected as an MLA from Vijayawada and served the public. I express my profound condolences to his family members.”

Kota Srinivasa Rao had an illustrious career, acting in over 700 films across Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam languages. He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2015 for his significant contributions to Indian cinema and the arts. Throughout his career, he received nine Nandi Awards, including accolades for Best Villain and Best Character Actor, in recognition of his impactful performances in Telugu cinema. In 1999, he was elected as an MLA from Vijayawada East and actively participated in public service. He was widely known for his iconic roles in films such as Aha Naa Pellanta, Gaayam, Tagore, Annamayya, Leader, and Pratighatana.
His legacy as both a versatile actor and a public servant continues to inspire generations in the world of cinema and beyond.
