With the iconic Rajinikanth stepping the political arena, the headlines are quivering with usual Rajinikanth mania. But can we expect a direction to come from this grand old hero?

He talks about freedom from traditional political parties who have not done anything for the country and wants to fly in order to save the Indian democracy. His words are similar to another man who wanted to change Indian political scenario. with these very words Arvind Kejriwal became larger than life but was soon engulfed by his own desires and AAP is vanishing from the political map.

Rajinikanth is bringing nothing new to politics of Tamil Nadu or even the country. Like MGR, Jayalalitha, his reel life has made him larger than life for the people of TN where people worship their actors. He is just filling a gap left by Jayalalitha and is a challenge to all the politicians of AIADMK who grew under the shadow of Jayalalitha.

The winds of change seem to be blowing from another direction. To mark the victory of a war won by 800 Dalits against the 2000 strong army of Peshawas in 1818, a conference is being inaugurated by Radhika Vemula, mother of the Dalit scholar Rohit Vemula who gave up on life faced with societal challenges.

Along with her, conference is going to be attended by Jignesh Mevani, Dalit activist-leader and newly elected MLA in Gujarat; Chhattisgarh tribal rights activist Soni Sori; Jawaharlal Nehru University student leader Umar Khalid; Prashant Dontha of Ambedkar Students’ Association, Hyderabad; Vinay Ratan Singh, national president of the Bhim Army; Prakash Ambedkar, grandson of B R Ambedkar; and Maulana Abdul Hamid Azhari, national secretary of All-India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB).

All these groups representing different minority sections and the oppressed and backward class of India might have points of difference but have decided to join forces to beat the new Peshawas of India ( RSS and other Hindutva groups).

These marginalized sections of Indian society have faced discrimination always but the past four years have been a direct attack on their livelihood, religion and practices which has caused them to unite putting their personal issues on a back burner.
