Mamata greets Lata Mangeshkar on her birthday

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today wished legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar on her 88th birthday and prayed for her good health.

"Wishing @mangeshkarlata ji a very Happy Birthday. To many more years of happiness, health and music," Banerjee wrote on her Twitter handle.

Mangeshkar, one of India's best known and most respected playback singers, was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989 and the Bharat Ratna in 2001.

Besides lending her voice to over a thousand Hindi films, the octogenarian has sung in around 36 regional languages, as well as in foreign languages. PTI
