Happy Birthday to the superstar of Bollywood Rishi Kapoor

Rishi Kapoor, who became the heartthrob of millions after Bobby (1973) was born on 4th September, 1952 and is well known for his works in Hindi cinema.

Kapoor was born in Chembur, Mumbai in a Punjabi Hindu family as Rishi Raj Kapoor. He was the second son of actor-film director Raj Kapoor and grandson of actor Prithviraj Kapoor. He did his schooling with his brothers at Campion School, Mumbai and Mayo College, Ajmer.

His brothers, Randhir Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor; maternal uncles, Prem Nath and Rajendra Nath; and paternal uncles, Shashi Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor are all actors. He has two sisters, Ritu Nanda and Rima Jain. Actress-singer Salma Agha is his second cousin, while actor Prem Chopra is his uncle by marriage. He is also a distant relative of actors Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor and director Boney Kapoor.

He received the National Film Award for his debut role as a child artist in his father Raj Kapoor's 1970 film Mera Naam Joker (1970). Rishi Kapooor received the Filmfare Best Actor Award in 1974. Bobby's worldwide success launched him as a global movie star, domestically in India and overseas in the Soviet Union.

For his performance in Do Dooni Chaar, he won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor in 2011, and for his role in Kapoor & Sons, he won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2017. He was honoured with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008.

He kept himself relevant with films like Luck By Chance, Agneepath, Aurangzeb and D Day. He is still a favourite with filmmakers and is always ready to experiment with older characters that require an established face.
