The intriguing lyrics of ‘Annana Paathiya Appata Ketiya’ originate from a traditional Thai incantation that has gained unexpected popularity across the world and taken over Instagram reels in no time. The song is often considered a love spell or charm in Thailand. It was initially used humorously in the Thai song (pronounced ‘Tong Bao Krahmom’) by prominent Thai musical artist Noi Chernyim.

In view of the song’s prominence, Noi Chernyim made a cameo appearance in the 2010 Thai comedy film ‘Luang Phi Teng 3’ (The Holy Man 3). It chanted the phrase ‘Anan Ta Pad Chaye, Apad Ti Te Tena’, which sounded like ‘Annana Paathiya Appata Ketiya’ in Tamil.

This similarity enthralled the Tamil-speaking audience as the phrase meant, ‘Have you seen big brother, have you asked father?' when translated into Tamil.

Later on, the 'Holy Man' trilogy received widespread popularity in Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries. Following the release of the film, the song ‘Tong Bao Krahmom’ was dropped on YouTube and other audio streaming platforms like Spotify in November 2014, as a part of the album ‘Luk Thung Comedy’.

The phrase further caught the fuel in 2019 when Niken Salindry, an 11-year-old Indonesian folk stage performer, incorporated ‘Anan Ta Pad Chaye’ into her performances to showcase her singing abilities in various languages. (Anan Ta Pad Chaye Trending Song Lyrics Meaning Real Story )

The viral trend continued in October 2024, when Rose, a member of the globally renowned K-pop group Blackpink, released a song titled ‘APT’ in association with Bruno Mars. Coincidentally, the song’s title with ‘Anan Ta Pad Chaye’ brought renewed attention to the catchy phrase, as a lot of people refer to it as ‘Thailand APT’.

This unexpected trend eventually reached India, where a lot of people started enjoying it and started making memes and trolls on it.
