The letter states that if the film is released, it will provoke anger and bitterness among the Sikh community.

Therefore, it is the government’s responsibility to ensure the film is banned in the state, it demanded, The SGPC has warned that it will strongly oppose the film if it is released. Additionally, demand letters have been sent to all Deputy Commisioner.

SGPC Demands Ban on Kangana Ranaut's 'Emergency' in Punjab

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has demanded a ban on Kangana Ranaut's film 'Emergency' in Punjab, citing misrepresentation of Sikh history and a potential strong reaction of anger.  In a letter to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami stated that the film's release could provoke anger and bitterness among the Sikh community.

The SGPC has warned that it will strongly oppose the film if it is released, and demand letters have been sent to all Deputy Commissioners in Punjab regarding this issue. The film, set to release on January 17, 2025, has been at the center of controversy, with Sikh groups accusing it of pulling historical facts and keeping negative stereotypes about Sikhs.

Controversy Surrounding 'Emergency'

The film's trailer sparked outrage among Sikh groups, who claimed that it misrepresents the community and its history. The SGPC has objected to the film's portrayal of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, a prominent Sikh leader, and has demanded that the filmmakers remove objectionable scenes and issue an apology to the Sikh community.

Kangana Ranaut, who directs and stars in the film, has faced criticism for her comments on Sikhs and her portrayal of Indira Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India. The film's release has been delayed several times due to controversy and censorship issues.
