Fans Emotional as Deol Family Marks Dharmendra’s 90th Birthday With Unseen Moments
With the 90th Birth Anniversary of Bollywood’s HeMan, today is a deeply emotional day for the Deol family and millions of fans across the world. He is now an occasion for remembrance, following the actor’s passing a few weeks ago, on November 24. The tributes that poured in from his family were not just birthday wishes but emotional declarations, reflecting how “Dharam ji” touched each of their lives.
Hema Malini, who shared over four decades of life, love and cinema with Dharmendra, shared a heartfelt tribute for him through her social media post. She penned that “more than two weeks have passed since you left me heartbroken, slowly gathering up the pieces and trying to reconstruct my life,” and added that the joyful memories of their life together “can never be erased.” She prayed for him to be granted “the wealth of peace and happiness that you richly deserve.”
Esha Deol wrote the most personal message for her father and referred to him as her “darling Papa”. She wrote that their bond was “our pact, the strongest bond,” and that “we are always together, Papa. Be it heaven or earth.” She further said that for now she had “tenderly, carefully & preciously tucked you in my heart … deep, deep inside to carry on with me for the rest of this lifetime.” She also promised to take his legacy forward and expressed how much she “painfully” missed his hugs and his voice calling her name.
Capturing a quiet, joyful moment with his father, son Sunny Deol shared a warm video in which they are together amid scenic mountains. In the clip, Sunny asks, “Are you enjoying yourself, Papa?” and Dharmendra responded with a hearty laugh and a sincere “I’m really enjoying it.” Alongside, Sunny wrote, “Today is my father’s birthday. Papa is always with me, inside me. Love you, Papa. Miss you,” as stated by the Hindustan Times.
Dharmendra’s nephew, Abhay Deol, shared a childhood memory with a photograph. He recalled how once, after being scolded, Dharmendra called him, sat him by his side, and told him, “Look at the light,” just before a photographer clicked the picture. Abhay wrote he “looks forward to the moment I hear him say those words to me again, when my time comes.”
The Deol family also decided to open the gates of Dharmendra’s beloved farmhouse in Khandala. This heartfelt gesture moved fans across the nation. Sons Sunny and Bobby Deol planned to honour their father’s 90th birth anniversary by welcoming fans to meet the family, pay tributes and celebrate his legacy. The decision came after the family learnt that many fans wished they had had the opportunity to see him one last time.
This 90th birthday, which is the first after his death, becomes less about loss alone and more about collective remembrance: a moment to celebrate a cinematic legend, but more than that, to remember a beloved father, mentor, and icon whose memory lives on in the hearts of his family and millions of admirers.
